Aman, whose name means safety in Arabic, is a cute girl who was diagnosed with cancer 2 weeks before her 11th birthday. Spending her birthday at the hospital was a totally new experience to her and her parents. Being the big sister in the family, Aman is still taking care of her two younger sisters and brother regardless. Aman has acute myeloid leukemia (AML) which starts in the bone marrow (the soft inner part of certain bones, where new blood cells are made), but most often it quickly moves into the blood, as well. Fever, bone pain, lethargy and fatigue, pale skin, and unusual bleeding, such as frequent nosebleeds and bleeding from the gums are the symptoms Aman started feeling when she knew something was wrong with her. But all this did not break her spirit. She is looking forward to starting school again in a month and will be enjoying science classes like she always does.
