International Memberships

The Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) is proud of its international memberships:

CCCL has become member of the Childhood Cancer International (CCI; formerly International Confederation of Childhood Cancer Parent Organizations) which was founded in 1994 as an umbrella organization of childhood cancer grassroots and national parent organizations.

Today, CCI is the largest patient support organization for childhood cancer. It is a global, parent-driven non-profit that represents 188 parent organizations, childhood cancer survivor associations, childhood cancer support groups, and cancer societies,  in 96 countries, across 5 continents.
Recognized world-wide as the body  representing children/adolescents with cancer, childhood cancer survivors and their families, CCI works in partnership with international development organizations, policy makers, civil society organizations, health, research and medical professionals.

In November 2018, CCCL will take part in the upcoming CCI International Conference in Kyoto under the theme “Advancing cure, Transforming care”.

CCCL has become a member in the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC) since 2017. The UICC is an organization dedicated to taking the lead in convening capacity building and advocacy initiatives that unite the cancer community to reduce the global cancer burden, promote greater equity, and integrate cancer control into the world health and development agenda. Current UICC membership comprises more than 1000 member organizations in 162 countries and continues to grow, all sharing a passion to eliminate cancer as a life-threatening disease for future generations.

In October 2018, CCCL participated in the UICC World Cancer Congresses held in Kuala Lumpur where institutions got the chance to apply to different awards one of which is the UICC Fundraising Award. CCCL nominated its “Light a Candle” project which was successfully selected as one of three finalists, a great accomplishment achieved thanks to the trust of touch in CCCL’s mission and the innovation of this unprecedented fundraising idea.

In 2018, CCCL became part of the UN Global Compact Network of Lebanon which convenes to promote sustainable development in our country.

The United Nation Global Compact (UNGCL), is the world’s largest corporate sustainability initiative. Its aim is to join the world’s top business leaders and governments in lifting the poorest nations out of poverty by adopting a more responsible and sustainable approach to business.

In September 2015, the United Nations General Assembly adopted a plan called “Agenda 2030” for Sustainable Development to transform the world with a motto to “leave no one behind”.
This plan addresses 5 pillars of our world:

  • 1- People
  • 2- Prosperity
  • 3- Peace
  • 4- Partnership
  • 5- Planet

To be able to transform our world and insure sustainable development, this plan has identified 17 global Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) which governments and governing bodies can adopt to insure the UN Agenda 2030 is achievable.

CCCL has mapped its services and operations to the following 5 UN SDGs, which emphasizes its leading position in sustainable development regionally and globally:

  • SDG 3: Ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages
  • SDG 5: Achieve gender equality
  • SGB 8: Promote inclusive and sustainable economic growth, economic and decent work for all
  • SDG 13: Take urgent action to combat climate change and its impacts
  • SDG 17: Sustainable developments through global partnerships

CCCL integrates these SDGs into actions within its operating system, similar to other UNGC members (world’s leading corporates, governments, and civil society) who have aligned their operations, services and mandates to align with these goals, and report on them yearly at the UN.
