CCCL Session at the London Global Cancer Week (LGCW)

November 19, 2021

On November 19, 2021, the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL) organized a virtual session part of the London Global Cancer Week (LGCW) 2021 entitled “Cancer Control in the MENA Region: How Cultivating Cross Regional Sustainable Relationships Can Enhance It”.

Six renowned speakers from Lebanon and Europe shared their expertise during this highly informative session. The session, which took place via Zoom, attracted more than 85 attendees from Lebanon and the world of different ages and walks of life: doctors, nurses, and specialists in the treatment of childhood cancer, students, journalists, professionals, cancer advocates, charity professionals and more.

Attendees were able to get an overview of cancer control initiatives, best practices for cross-regional collaborations and partnerships, their importance in crisis settings, the importance of advocacy in cancer control, as well as an inspiring talk from a childhood cancer survivor.

We would like to thank all the speakers: Dr André Ilbawi, WHO Technical Officer for Cancer Control, Mrs. Hana Chaar Choueib, General Manager of the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon and Board Member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), Dr. Nada Mohammad Mahdi Sbeiti, Pediatric and Adolescent Hematology/Oncologist, Prof Kathy Pritchard-Jones, President of the International Society of Pediatric Oncology (SIOP) UK, Mrs. Deenah Fakhoury, Executive Director at the UN Global Compact Network Lebanon, and the session’s moderator: Mrs. Karen Khoury Gemayel, PR and External Affairs Manager for the Children’s Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL).

A special thank you to LGCW organizers who gave us the opportunity to be part of their online discussions and events.

And a final thanks to all those who brought their interest and experience to our gathering and to all the attendees who have the vision, knowledge, ability and experience to help us pave the way into the future.
