A trek of hope and awareness on Mount Kilimanjaro by Abbas Daher

Give me a hand to reach the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro for one objective: give hope to children in need and raise awareness among different generations to support cases of children with cancer and have more than 80% chance to recover:

On 17 November 2018, I will be climbing Mount Kilimanjaro for 7 days to reach the summit at 5,895m. Mount Kilimanjaro is located in Tanzania and is the highest mountain in Africa. To reach the summit I will experience 5 different challenging environments: lower slopes, lush rainforest, moorland, Alpine desert, and Ice/snow/Glacial.

Having visited the CCCL and listened to the inspirational stories of children and donors who believe in the mission of the CCCL gives me an inspiration to contribute to this success story and achieve the noble vision of CCCL “To provide access to free treatment and care to all children with cancer in Lebanon and the region, without any discrimination” which will greatly motivate me to reach the top of Kilimanjaro.

When I first decided to take this trek, I was inspired by how strong and determined these children are to fight back and overcome this vicious disease. I was also inspired to give my children and the children around me a reason to appreciate life and realize how fortunate they are and at the same time give them an example to belong to the broader community to help others. I was lastly inspired by the inner child in me who has doubts in the old man’s capabilities to climb this mountain which requires tremendous amount of mental and physical preparation.

Now, I am more determined than ever to take this trek for all the above reasons and hopefully be able with your support to help those children and given them a chance in life to fight back and win this battle of survival with love and care.
